on staying informed

 

it would be nice if I could share my ideas and not wimp out and if people start attacking me and criticizing me for my point of view, I'm going to try to see if anybody says nasty things to me because of this little essay that I'm writing about my negative thoughts about the news media. If somebody wants to be really negative and criticize me, let's see if I can handle it and I can just let people totally disagree with me and keep this post up and I don't want to argue or debate with anybody. You're entitled to your opinion as much as I'm entitled to my opinion, every single person is a unique individual and we do not fit into little boxes . The way people are stereotyping each other these days is very disturbing to me and honestly I'll be friends with anybody who's nice to me. Even if they completely have different views than me on all topics in the world right now. I could be friends with anybody who actually is decent and respectful . The idea of staying informed is a good idea with good intentions, but if you're overwhelmed with information that makes you angry and scared and dreading reality, that seems to me like a very toxic thing. Kind of like eating junk food and not realizing YOU HAVE A CHOICE TO EAT REAL FOOD OR JUNK FOOD- feeding your brain Junk food is not going to help your brain function or the world be a better place and solve it's problems. It's not going to help you be a productive citizen. If you let yourself be overwhelmed and bombarded with mass media, that's sensationalizing everything. That's my opinion right now about some of the stress that I'm seeing. People overwhelmed and stressed out and they think that that's just because of what's really happening in the world and they're not actually aware of and being a witness to The sensationalized media conglomeration of high ratings and keeping people glued to the tubes to think that they're good citizens. If they soak all that in as if to think that once we have Utopia and World peace then what the news media is going to tell us how wonderful everything is? FAT CHANCE. Plato's allegory to the cave comes to mind= "In the allegory, Plato describes people who have spent their entire lives chained by their necks and ankles in front of an inner wall with a view of the empty outer wall of the cave. They observe the shadows projected onto the outer wall by objects carried behind the inner wall by people who are invisible to the chained “prisoners” and who walk along the inner wall with a fire behind them, creating the shadows on the inner wall in front of the prisoners. The "sign bearers" pronounce the names of the objects, the sounds of which are reflected near the shadows and are understood by the prisoners as if they were coming from the shadows themselves.

Only the shadows and sounds are the prisoners' reality, which are not accurate representations of the real world. The shadows represent distorted and blurred copies of reality we can perceive through our senses, while the objects under the Sun represent the true forms of objects that we can only perceive through reason. Three higher levels exist: natural science; deductive mathematics, geometry, and logic; and the theory of forms.

Socrates explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall are not the direct source of the images seen. A philosopher aims to understand and perceive the higher levels of reality. However, the other inmates of the cave do not even desire to leave their prison, for they know no better life"

you're missing out on actual full life. If you just fixate on what the media chooses to talk about and not realizing there's also things they're choosing to not talk about . I'm a human being that cares about everything happening in the world, but I don't feel it's my duty and obligation to get bombarded with information that perpetuates conflict and fear and anger and being manipulated into thinking that I'm a good citizen because I'm soaking all that in and that I'm supposed to try to fix the problem by being whatever kind of person people think that they have to be to be a hero and save the world from all the bad things happening etc. Feels like a trick to me and a manipulation. Feels like psychological warfare game that people are mistaking for the truth . Not that there isn't truthful things spoken about in the media but the way they sensationalize and fixate on negative things. We know that that gets higher ratings if they dramatize everything.. like when you see a car accident people want to look on the side of the road. But then when you see something cute and fun and nice you might not even notice that . mass media frenzy, I feel like it's a form of psychological warfare for people to get so hooked into sensationalized media ideas and mistaking that for actual reality and not realizing how persuasive media gossip is and that there is a difference between what's really happening for sure in the world versus what they talk about and how they say it and how many buttons it pushes in people. I'll probably delete this post because it's so-called controversial, but I think a lot of people are basing their mood on sensationalized media gossip in the mass media designed to manipulate and fear-monger people and stress people out and give people certain ideas of what's the gloom and doom in the world. And it's important to actually care about what's really happening in the world, but to think that you need to be focused on the sensationalized news media cycle about everything happening in the world- that is not good for your health and does not solve anything. IN FACT IT ADDS TO THE STRESS IN THE WORLD. Not just the United states, but like all over the world every like dramatic event that's happening in the world right now that that the news media talks about. I think a lot of people are mistaking their own real life. With the actual news media cycle, I don't think people realize that you're not helping the world by being stressed out and proving that you care by being stressed out in news media stories that are being told like we're not directly solving these issues by listening to by listening and "staying informed" of what the news media wants to tell you that doesn't actually help the world, it only like for me, it just stresses me out. So for me to stay informed by watching all of the mainstream news stories, that's not helpful and then people argue and label everything and it's like it's not helping the world to argue about what's true and what's false, what's gossip and what's legitimate newsworthy information blah blah blah. It's like it's not helping the world to do that and I'm not trying to make anybody feel bad. That's really into paying attention to all the news so they can stay informed and prove they're a good person who cares. But that just feels like a manipulation to me like you've been sucked into and manipulated into thinking that you're only a good person if you pay attention to all of the news stories cuz you're trying to prove that you don't believe that some of it is sensationalized BS because it kind of is. It's like gossiping. It's like high school kids gossiping there's a lot of money involved and they want good ratings. So it's like if we're sucked into that, we're missing out on what's actually happening in the world in a more real kind of way. And I honestly think people are mistaking sensationalize sound bites and stories reported on. Yeah, there are seriously bad things happening in the world, but to fixate on that and magnify it is not helping solve the problems. So to me it's like that's like eating junk food watching all of that sensationalized stressful information designed to give news sites, high ratings and high viewership so they can sell ads sponsored by large corporations trying to sell you products. It's not really helping the world. So honestly, I think the Dalai Lama would probably agree with me what helps the world is for people to be peaceful and affect their local community in whatever way they can. Family, friends, your career, whatever you can do in your actual life that doesn't involve sensationalized media stories that we don't have control over. taking care of your body mind and nervous system also helps the world and is not "selfish" and watching lots of media that is stressful to "stay informed" is not helping the world heal or solve it's problems or promote any kind of peace- when citizens are stressed out and arguing about that is true and false that is not fixing anything- only adding to the drama. WE ALL CHOOSE what to focus on.

and i know this is partly because of you know who saying "psuedo news" and it made some humans want to REBEL and "stay informed" to prove they care about world events- now i think that is trap that is best not to get sucked into. what do each of us want to build and reinforce as individuals as opposed to jumping on some band wagon and arguing about what is true and false?

Made a new video for "ShannonKringen" youtube channel about how to eat on a budget and eat healthy food from my perspective. And I believe in free speech and civil liberties. So if anyone disagrees with me that's fine. But I just put my input in because somebody said hey. Do you have a video on how people can do this because they were saying that if somebody doesn't have a lot of money they are forced to eat junk food cuz that's all they can afford but I don't agree. I think that you can actually be on a really tight budget and eat healthy food if you're willing to do certain things that I do. And no matter what my income level is, whether it's low, medium or high. I still believe in eating actual real food and not processed food that comes in boxes

Part of why I love being an artist is that I love the idea of individuality. every single human is completely unique and has their own way of doing things. And that is the most precious thing about artistic expression to me. Whether it's music or visual art or acting or performing arts, singing, dancing, writing every kind of art form that there is. Freedom to explore and experiment and see what happens between the artist as well as the audience and the relationship between the artist and the audience always has fascinated me.

Straddling the middle on the checkerboard... Feel in sync with a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Not buying into either. Extreme on any topic really these days. Not able to conform to the pecking order so having to find a different way to surf these waves of how I I coexist with the rest of humanity right now. Easier with plants and animals than fellow humans right now, but I do have much in common with people with art and music and serving in my career and loving. Taking care of what I'm hired to do and having the freedom of expression in my art and just navigating carefully right now. Feel like I'm walking on eggshells. Very uncomfortable, weird feeling.

I'm a fan of respecting each other's privacy and individuality and supporting people in doing whatever they think is best in all the choices that they make, whether they're big choices or small choices. I'm also a fan of Open-Minded free thinking and liberating yourself from any kind of peer pressure you feel from people that are similar to you or different from you.

my dad in florida with the storm

I refuse to buy in the polarized version of reality- one extreme or the other. I think the truth is a mixture of all of it . I always question everything I hear on the media- whether it's mainstream or independent or alternative and I wonder what the full truth is about why these storms are happening so badly and I have my theories. And yes, I know what I'm supposed to think about these things, but I don't really buy into just conforming with whatever I'm told. I'm supposed to think about these things ! I MAKE CHOICES BASED ON MY OWN INNER WISDOM NOT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE TELL ME TO DO TO OR HOW TO THINK. Same with certain medical topics and certain nutrition and health topics. I question all of it all the time no matter what . We do have technology that can turbocharge things or minimize things and we also have nature that does what nature does. So here we are . Well my dad is in Port St Lucie Florida and he's going to stay at his house during the storm and him and his neighbor s have made the preparations and they have storm proof hurricane proof windows on their houses. He lives in a suburban fairly flat community with not a lot of trees around and there is a pond nearby with alligators that live in it... My dad is very calm. He's been through many hurricanes and this one might be worse than anything else he's experienced, but he's willing to take the chance so I'm willing to accept the fact that maybe things won't be okay where my dad is and maybe things will be okay where my dad is and life is fragile and life is temporary so I'm willing to face head on if something tragic happens in my dad's area. I think that people are kind of way too addicted to the drama in the media and it is important to help people in disaster areas and do everything we can to help. But I think we need to also remember that if you watch a lot of drama in the news before something happens and they're trying to predict what may or may not happen, it is kind of like a ratings game and what is supposedly reality becomes like a TV show drama soap opera instead of actual reality... My dad says he's all set. They have some of the neighbors have generators. They have extra water, extra food. They're prepared if the power goes out. Hoping their houses don't flood. My dad has two cats so he's going to do everything he can to keep himself and his cats safe and healthy. And if it becomes a tragic disaster area in my dad's neighborhood, I guess he's just willing to face it head on. And I agree with my dad. It's best to not panic about these kind of things and just make your choices and do your best and then see what happens. Also I'm a spiritual person so whatever happens with my dad is going to happen and he is more than just his body. He's also a soul so we'll see what happens and one day at a time.

My dad is in Port St. Lucie, Florida waiting out the storm with preparations with him and his neighbors and literally a Hard rain's gonna fall. My dad is a huge Bob Dylan fan and so am I. So I dedicate this song out hard rain's going to fall by Bob Dylan not to make light of any hideous storm things happening in the world, but to honor the poetic beauty of the lyrics of this song and acknowledging that life is beautiful and painful at the same time and fragile and strong at the same time simultaneously cuz I don't buy into the polarized way of seeing things. I see everything is good and bad and everything in between. Everything is a mixture and there's multilayers and nuances always about everything on this planet

Bio:
Multi Media Artist Shannon Kringen grew up in San Diego California and Whidbey Island Washington. She is a self taught poet, multi media visual artist with a background in Graphic Design. She has worked as a figure model in Seattle since 1992. She completed her BA degree in Arts and Literature from Antioch University in 2013. She sees her creative expression as a tool to connect with community and a way of increasing self awareness and tap into a deeper wisdom within.

Artist Statement:
I work with words in writing poetry and cameras and paint improvisationally. I am very kinesthetic and use my whole body when I create. Im very sensitive to sound and music and phrases pop into my head and I write them down and then “riff” off them. I like to say “Catch the Windsong Spiral Drive, Crack the Code, Left and Right node” my poems start with one phrase that I hear in my head then I start writing and adding from there and usually end up with metaphors and double entendres that surprise and delight me.

In my photography, I fall in love with shape, texture, and light while out wandering. I like to capture what is naturally there but in a way that abstracts it and allows the viewer to notice something new and different about ordinary physical reality. I carefully compose all my photos spontaneously as I am shooting, moving the camera angle until I see what looks like a balanced, dynamic composition.

In my painting, I allow my hands to move intuitively on the canvas creating shapes and textures that feel right. I repeat patterns and choose colors from somewhere beyond my thinking mind. I am very inspired by the repeating patterns I see in nature. Plants and animals move me a great deal.

I also created an art car called “Opal Moonstone” that is intricate patterns of Rhinestone that I hand crafted over the last 3 years. I was recently interviewed about my Multi Media Art by Seattle Magazine:

Here's my stream of consciousness essay for today and I know that a lot of people find me annoying but this is the way that I express myself so take it or leave it. Good luck to everyone ! I like to say be yourself no matter what they say. That's from a sting song I love called Englishman in New York ... Really wanting to figure out how to organize my photos and my videos and all my projects that I'm doing. Music, poetry, photos, videos, pet sitting, art modeling all of it, my artwork and all the things that I do for a living. I just kind of surf all these different waves and I guess that's my style. So maybe I should make a documentary film. Just documenting the random chaosness of my life. I don't know if I can really put together a linear story very well. Probably going to have to find other people that want to make a film with me, but the classic Goddess Kring style of making a movie would be to do it in my own strange improv chaos way!? And maybe the way that I share online already is me documenting my life and like my whole life is like an ongoing show and tell documentary anyway. But I do like the idea of actually trying to tell a story in a filmmaking way and make it a feature length with its own original music score and make one that's good enough to submit to film festivals and or screen in Seattle in a theater that I would rent. The Northwest film Forum has a theater that people can rent. Maybe there's other options as well. Would be cool to have a visual art show and a movie screening and share Multimedia creativity that I do. It would be interesting to have a show of my visual art and videos in a movie on my art car and then fill up an entire room of paintings and drawings that artists have done of me over the years like the finished fine art pieces that have been made in my likeness to show my work as an art model because I've been modeling since 1992. Although I'm doing less of that now and more of taking care of pets right now and also work with medical students as a standardized patient. Kind of trying to tell the story of my life in a linear way might be a challenge, especially for someone like me that has total improv chaos brain. I also like the idea of having other people interview me who like my show or like my art and interview me or I interview them about how my art affected them because my TV show it was mostly just me doing monologues by myself solo. So I was thinking that a departure from that would be to involve other people more and have dialogues or interviews with other people whether they interview me or I interview them just to kind of expand on the whole concept of the communication of me and the way I see the world and wanting to share some of my way of seeing the world with other people. I am on the autism spectrum officially in terms of mainstream psychological assessments. I don't always buy into all of that, but I have officially gone through testing and assessing of the way my brain works and they say I am on the autism spectrum. Of course it's not an exact science. Nothing much is these days, but it's good to know that my brain is unusual in some ways and I have a way of processing information that is usually not in chronological order and I have a poor working memory supposedly. But I think some of my neurodivergent traits actually serve me well in my art. I think the fact that I can do improv art. The way that I can is partly because my brain is non-linear and I see patterns and connect dots in my own kind of way and maybe this helps me create a unique style of art and poetry and music and painting and photography etc. So maybe if I do a movie I should just go with my strange style? My eccentric non-linear non-chronological order random chaos order. That's my style but I would like to actually tell a story with a beginning a middle and an end and that would be interesting and compelling and engaging the audience. But I guess what I really need to do is create something that I think is interesting that I love and trust that there's an audience out there for that. And if not, if it's completely not connecting with an audience, at least I will know that. I really am an eccentric person that doesn't quite know how to connect with an audience. And maybe that's okay too because every single person is totally unique and that's a literal fact. And maybe that's totally fine. We're all here together and yet we're all completely different at the same time.

I guess my main projects right now are work on making a film. A documentary about my life and my public access show. Write a memoir kind of book autobiography, creative book and keep working on music- basically keep writing poetry and publishing that and then turn it into music with Dave Flowers and modeling and photography and painting in my abstract style. I'm just making it up as I go. Maybe having goals. It doesn't even matter. Maybe just keep the free form improv going and just create as much as I can for my entire life and that is my purpose perhaps and share it with whoever wants to see it and learn as I go. I'm open to whatever interesting opportunities come my way and collaborating with other people on these multimedia projects. It does seem like my best work is mostly solo, but I have collaborated with some great artists when I model and the music I'm doing right now is a huge collaboration with another person and that is maybe a new thing for me to really collaborate well with another person. Maybe that's my autism where I work best by myself and that gets interpreted as a form of narcissism by some people and yet I feel most comfortable when I work. Mostly alone. And yet I do long to connect and collaborate with others. But only if I can really use my talent to the best of my ability and not feel like I'm watering it down or something or getting all shy and clamming up around other people. That's part of why I like to work alone because I'm not shy when I'm by myself. But when I work with other people I get like I'm a clan that's hiding in her shell and I don't know why I do that but I'm just really sensitive in a certain way and I need to relax and Bloom like a flower. Basically when I do the best art that I can do, I think that's way it seems anyway. And then people tell me don't overthink it but I love to think!
